how to photograph birds on film in macro (1 Viewer)

Are you confusing zoom with macro?

Macro is using a specialist lens for very close shots, not using a big lens to zoom in as you seem to be suggesting?

If using a zoom lens, I find that getting as close as possible then using digital zoom to crop the picture, gets better results than using the optical zoom.
