Looking at some shots from 3 years ago and I've never managed to ID this, just cannot figure it out at all so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think we can eliminate Variable on the unbroken antehumeral?

I'm pretty sure this is a male Variable Damselfly. The amount of black on the abdomen on the thorax and abdomen in the species is highly variable. In Askew there are two drawings of the abdomen - one which looks like the Dijkstra illustration and the other which has a lot more black on S3-S5. The pronotum looks OK for Variable. I haven't seen many male Variables but I did make the attached composite pic from three I saw on a visit to Burghfield Bridge to illustrate the variation in the antehumerals.
