Beech tree insect ID help please (1 Viewer)

Hello. I don't have a photo, but hope that someone can point me in the right direction to help identify this.
Whilst walking in the forest (mainly beech), a metallic, blackish purple, flying (beetle?) with very long antennae was flying over and around new and emerging beech leaves in quite large numbers.

Very distinctive, in that they were only to be found on or around the beech trees. I am in Brittany, France.

I was sure that I would find them easily when consulting my books/internet. But I haven't got a clue! Any help welcome. Thank you.
