Grafham Water Birder
Can anyone on this group offer advise on a good spot to bird in Vienna Woods for Grey-headed Woodpecker (and other general species). I have one and a half days to pass with some birding around Vienna (in a weeks time).

Also, any advise on good areas to search around Neusiedler including for water bird species and Great Bustard.

All advise much appreciated

Hi GWB and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators.

We have some information on the Opus article for Vienna Woods which you might like to look through until someone else comes in with some more help.

I hope you enjoy your time with us.

Just a quick update for those sourcing info.

Lainzer Tiergarden (once you find a way to get in) was reasonable, but it doesn't open until 8am, and the birding was rather quiet (perhaps due to the cold and wet morning!). Collared Flycatcher was present, but Woodpeckers were elusive.

Neusidel was excellent. Could have done with more time here. Adult White-tailed Eagle was unexpected, lots of Temminck's Stints, Whiskered Terns, Barred Warbler, Icterine Warbler and best of all, Syrian Woodpecker.

Hansag produced 6 Great Bustards in the evening. From second viewing platform along east side of plains (when coming from north).
