Upgrade for Canon A95 (1 Viewer)

My current setup is a Canon A95 + canon lens adapter + SRB-Griturn step-up ring and lens sleeve. This fits on my Leica APO 62 with 26x eyepiece.

The 1.8" LCD screen is a bit small compared to more modern cameras and its now showing a purple band at the top, so its time to upgrade.

I'm wanting something < £250, preferably with the facility to fit a lens adapter rather than fit something to the tripod thread. I want a compact setup because I'm a birder first and foremost, who takes the occasional record shot.

I'm a bit out of touch with what's any good, so any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks.

Why do you associate fitting to the tripod thread to not being able to remove it? I primarily use the scope for photo but only have the adapter/camera on when shooting otherwise its just a scope.

I don't associate fitting to the tripod thread to not being able to remove it.

What I think, perhaps mistakenly, is that using this method, the setup might move once its been attached and detached from the scope numerous times, which means the camera lens will not be perfectly aligned with the scope eyepiece. By using some adapter connected directly to the base of the camera lens (like I currently do) prevents any sort of movement. That is the only reason I would prefer to avoid the tripod adapter method.

Richard,
I agree with you, a mount on the camera body around the lens is great. I found it easy to epoxy bond a threaded ring to my FH1 (FS10) and go to a thread on my Hyperion eyepieces. You should be able to attach the same way to your sleeve that fits over the lens. I love the camera and it is very sharp. Digiscopes without vignetting with many eyepieces. Will try to attach a photo link here, or later if problems. Gene

Thanks Gene. I might just take the plunge and go for the FS10 seeing as its not too expensive and it sounds like its well suited to digiscoping. Also if I can't make a homemade adapter I might be able to get something from SRB-Griturn.

This is for the FS7 which might fit the FS10

This is a full kit including camera but they might sell the mount separately

Gene, did you do anything special to ensure your threaded ring is concentric with the lens?

Ian
