Dragonfly, Oxfordshire - darter sp. (1 Viewer)

I took this at Otmoor, thinking common darter and that she was a bit early and had more yellow on her wings than I'm used to. But the more I look at the photos the more I wonder if she wasn't actually a ruddy darter (I think I can safely rule out the other darter species).

Neither of my ID books are particularly helpful on separating these two species - anyone have any thoughts?

Agree with Phil - and in the middle pic you can see the dark stripe down the centre of the thorax which would make the T (visible with a pic from above). The T should be mentioned or should be visible in the images in your books.
 
Thanks both. More useful stuff duly learned for next time.

One of the key challenges seems to be knowing what angle I need a photo from - so often I end up with every angle except the one that would clinch it! Nice to get a result in this case.
