Is the specific epithet "contii" for a person or a place? I finally got access to James Jobling's dictionary, and wouldn't you know it, this was not listed. I checked Zoonomen for information, with no success. I found information on the French Prince of Conti or Conde, but could not find a link between this bird name and the prince.

From the report mentioned by Richard: "The name is given for Nicolo di Conti, the first European to reach Burma." PM your email if you want the PDF.

Susan, I wish I had great knowledge, but the source of my wisdom is usually Google... ;)

And my long shot was a complete turkey!

Well, you must have an instinct about where to check, because you have been right on several times with my questions. Believe me, I have turkeys clucking all around me at this point!

These days, google is filtering search results. That means, that if you in the past have mainly clicked bird related results, those are going to be presented on the top of the page. However, if your clicks were on movies or stock quotes, then those type of results will be presented first.
