Hi everyone,
Was going over this summers pics, and about to delete this when something caught my eye.
Ruby-throat appears to have an insect or spider. I'm unsure which.

Middle of September and males have been scarce for the past 2 weeks.
This season is rapidly coming to a close.

Cheers!
Bill

Interesting photo. Looks looks like the bug's caught in the gape in such a way that the hummer's unable to swallow it. Should fall off eventually, I imagine.

A very interesting image and I don't know why you would want to delete it as it is beautiful.

Hi KC, Thank you. I learned my lesson with this one.

Been trying for years to catch something like that.
Finally, when I had it, I almost didn't realize it

Hello, Fugl. Yes, I agree, very likely
The bird was flicking out its tongue, perhaps to clean off nectar. It had just hit a feeder almost directly below it.
I hang banana peels adjacent to the feeder, to draw flies for the hummers.

I posted this article here on site several years ago,
and thought of it instantly after seeing the pic.
