Can anybody reliably identify this spider? Its not my photo but a lady who lives nearby - she has been bitten and is reacting quite badly and has conflicting tentative IDs.

Many thanks in advance

Looks like a Wolf Spider to me Simon?

Great, I think we're getting somewhere - I've just looked on Naturdata - a great Portuguese website on the spider section and I don't know where to start - and a fair few different Wolf Spiders (Aranha-lobo).

edit: just seen your edit....I'll look it up - but I'm less than a novice!

I'd thought Wolf Spider bites were harmless. Is that a misconception?

Not sure either - but there are a number of species of Wolf Spider now I see - from the page I linked above - some can bite people occasionally but rarely present problems. I've just spoken to a doctor friend and he insists on a hospital visit because if one is allergic - it can be pretty bad.
