Mark Lazarowicz, the MP for Edinburgh North & Leith s introducig a private member's bill in Parliament to halt the introduction of Ship to Ship oil trasnfers in the Firth of Forth. The Firth of Forth is one of the most important areas in the UK for wintering seaducks and breeding seabirds (although not Tufted Puffins as shown on BBC Scotland last night3:)).

I think we should all be writing to our MPs to ask them to support this bill.

Happy New Year

This whole thing is quite concerning. We have ship to ship transfers here in the sheltered waters of Scapa Flow. The potential for a bad spill is there all the time but so far so good. But on open exposed water like the Firth of Forth its just asking for trouble. At the end of the day the profits should not justify the risk.
This needs to be opposed.

There is no way that non-emergency ship-to-ship transfers should be allowed at sea, much less in environmentally sensitive areas such as the Firth of Forth, Shetland, etc. The risks of a spill are too great.

Support the Bill

Got the letter off RSPB Campaigns a few days ago and have just wrote to my MP using its guidance.

Mind you, my MP never bothered to reply to my last letter some months ago about the Climate Change Bill.

I will try and find out if he attends the second reading of the Bill on the 25th of January......
