Hi there everyone. I am wondering if anyone can help me identify the guys I saw while in Russia this past August. I've been pretty lost trying to do this so far.

This one was seen in Ust-Barguzin which is on the eastern shore of Lake Baikal in the middle.

2. Chita, a little further east from Ulan Ude http://darthbangkok.smugmug.com/Wildlife/Russian-Far-East-August-2011/i-T6CDfb8/0/L/DSC6332-L.jpg

The rest of these were seen in Khabarovsk all the way east:

Many thanks in advance!!

edit: looks like I can't get a thumbnail to display in the post itself. Sorry about that!!

1. and 4. are a male and female Argynnis paphia (Silver-washed Fritillary).
2. Not an easy one, but judging by your location and the size of the lower eye, this appears to be Satyrus dryas.
3. Argynnis aglaja (Dark Green Fritillary)
5. A moth of the genus Catocala, most likely nymphaea

Hi

#5 is certainly a Catocala species but not nymphaea as that species is not supposed to get that far east. I think it is C. helena Eversmann, 1856.

Best wishes

Martin
