How is your 2010 List Going? (1 Viewer)

I thought it was a much slower start than last year, thanks to the freezing weather, but looking back I see that I have only 2 fewer birds this year. And if we can get to Vane Farm tomorrow, as planned, I should be ahead of the all-important first-three-days total from 2009. The most exciting bird I've seen so far was the Great Northern Diver on the River Teith at Callander.

Slow going on patch today, only managed to make it to 39 with additions of fieldfare, tufted duck and siskin.

Still missing some very obvious ones I should have got today - grey heron, Canada goose (!), greenfinch, mistle thrush, song thrush and pied wagtail should have been shoo-ins, and stock dove, dipper and grey wagtail shouldn't have been too hard. Goes to show you can't always tell what's going to show up!

51 on the first, didn't try very hard though! Highlights were Black-throated Diver, Common Scoter, Dartford Warbler, Water Rail and Water Pipit. Only added 2 more today, but the second was probably a Siberian Chiffchaff.

112 seen on my local patch today which is a 7 mile radius around the centre of Lowestoft, Suffolk. Highlights included Black-throated Diver, Jack Snipe, Shag, Hen Harrier, Firecrests, Purple Sand, Short-eared Owl and Ruff. Only real miss of the Common stuff was Yellowhammer showing what an amazing patch this is with varied habitats.

Thats quite a total !
On NYDay we managed 71 on foot on our land locked & snow bound local patch - especially happy as we managed to see the 5 owl species. :king:
We have a similar boundary stretching @ 6mile from home, didnt go too far on NYD - hope to venture further when we eventually get rid of all this snow.

Westport CT Christmas Bird Count was a toughie - HORRIBLE winds that kept the birds hunkering down - our group had some STUNNINGLY big misses, despite our valiant efforts in 20 degree F weather (less than 10 degrees F with windchill).

47 now... LBBG and pied wag picked up during a trip to the supermarket yesterday. Don't you love this time of year when you can pick up year ticks everywhere you go?!

Should break the 60 barrier today I think...

Decided to miss out out on the Shrike in London, opting to go and head back up to Rutland for another Bogey bird of mine ( Bittern ). I figure if i concentrate on the common bogeys i should end up with a better list at the end of the year, since the rest will just fall into place|<|

Still missed out some of the Rutland stuff though ( the place is so big!!! ), but had an enjoyable day at a place thats actually growing on meB :)
