Jeff's Database back up problem (1 Viewer)

I have been using BF member Jeff's database to store my birding records for the last few years, in total there are 32 years worth of records in the database. Now moving from desktop to laptop computers and having a devil of a job shifting my data. On the desktop I have just backed up the database and then restored the back up, this worked well when I swopped desktops about 6 years ago. Done the same thing today and the laptop isn't finding the mde file at all.

The database was originally on a machine running XP, now on machine running Windows 7. The laptop is running Windows 8.1. The only reason I am wanting to swop is that the desktop is starting to show signs of age, it doesn't like being shut down etc.

I am using Microsoft Access 2007 on both desktop and laptop.

Any thoughts on what I am doing wrong?
