Rough-legged Hawk Siting this morning. (1 Viewer)

Was the bird flying or perched? Rough-legged Hawks do not have bare legs. They have feathers on their legs that go all the way down to their toes. That is where their name comes from. Did you see this particular field mark on it?

Okay. You need to make a more detailed description of it now. Did you get a picture of it? Did you see it flying?

Rough-legged Hawk is a Florida review species with very few accepted records. Please take a photograph if possible and post here. I have attached a photo of a soaring individual with a few prominent fieldmarks marked.
There are many hawk species that winter here (Broad-winged, Short-tailed, Red-tailed, Swainson's, Red-shouldered), so it's good to eliminate those species first.
