Rough-legged Hawk Siting this morning. (1 Viewer)

We live in the Everglades and spotted a Rough-Legged Hawk in our yard this morning but the migratory patterns do not indicate that is possible.

Meant "sighting" sorry.

Has anyone else seen these birds in this region?

Okay. You need to make a more detailed description of it now. Did you get a picture of it? Did you see it flying?

It also would be a good idea if you would contact a moderator on this site and have your post transfered the Bird Identification Forum where others could chime in.

Rough-legged Hawk is a Florida review species with very few accepted records. Please take a photograph if possible and post here. I have attached a photo of a soaring individual with a few prominent fieldmarks marked.

There are many hawk species that winter here (Broad-winged, Short-tailed, Red-tailed, Swainson's, Red-shouldered), so it's good to eliminate those species first.
