Red-winged Blackbird eating carrion? (1 Viewer)

About a month ago, while visiting the Suisun Marsh, I saw a Red-winged Blackbird (well, really a Bicolored Blackbird) in the road eating roadkill (small, looked like rat or possum). The only meat I've read about Red-winged Blackbirds eating is spiders! Has anyone else seen or heard of this behavior from Red-winged Blackbirds (or Bicolored Blackbirds)?

Curiously,

Donita

There's very few birds that won't eat carrion, if it is reasonably fresh - it is after all, good protein, and doesn't run away or fight back. Try putting some meat bones on a bird table, and you'll soon build up a long list of birds eating off them.
