Does can anybody recognise this bird? (1 Viewer)

Hi!

I was in Macao, China, last Easter (I live in the UK) where I saw several small black birds with white wings. They seemed to live in pairs and to be quite lively. I think that the their song was a bit like an Australian magpie, but I wasn't sure I'd matched the call to the bird correctly!

As you may guess, I am not an expert!

Hi Bassoforte,

A warm welcome to BirdForum from all the Admin and Moderators.

I am afraid I can't answer your question, but we have plenty of experts who may be able to help.

Hi
They could be Crested Mynas, a bit like Starlings, which are black and have white patches on the wings, they should be fairly common in Macau. Or, White Wagtail, like our Pied Wagtails, which have longer tails than the Mynas and totally white wings. The males are predominently black. Off the top of my head I can't think of anything else common........what habitat were they in?

They sound like Crested Mynas to me too. They're very common in Hong Kong, and presumably also in Macao. The white patches on the wings are very noticeable in flight. Does that sound like what you saw?

Thank you Mike and Helen C,

I just did a Google Image search, and the bird I saw is undoubtedly a Crested Myna.

Thank you!
