Bullock's Oriole

This was my first sighting of the Bullock's Oriole and I almost passed it up but for the lesson of one of the Moderators deia todd. She pointed out a bird that is now extinct because of those not paying attention to it.

The reason I almost passed it up was that I had seen a bird that looked a lot like it before and had posted the bird here.

Once I got home and had a closer look at the photo it was a totally different bird.

Western Grebe

I add this one to my list today out at the Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve. There were about six of them out there and this particular group was staying pretty close to each other. If one dived the other two dived. I posted one photo already in the Gallery so here is the two best shots of the day of this group,

Rock Doves

Anybody who lives in a city or town that has a population of these guys know what a pain they are. Yet they are still beautiful in the fact that they are living breathing creatures.

The apartment complex I live and work at has a large population of them I could make a bird photography field trip out of just photographing them and the Grackle. Even though Las Vegas has a huge population of these guys and they are not an endangered species they are still protected and extremely hard to get rid of. Which means at least once a week we are going around with a hose and washing down parts of the property.

Domestic Swan Goose

I have always been the type that if I am wrong on something I will admit it. Especially when in a public forum. I made the mistake of not double checking my facts and kept wondering why I did not see the Chinese Goose in any of the checklists that I have or not really covered in the Field Guides that I have.

Found out today why, I miss id'ed the bird. It should be a Domestic Swan Goose. I see these birds a lot at Floyd Lamb Park and Sunset Park. They are not as common at any of the other Parks and Wetlands around the valley.

They give the Canada Goose a run for its money on begging for handouts.

Great Blue Heron

This was only the second time I have seen this beautiful bird, the First at Clark County Wetlands Park, and today at Floyd Lamb Park.

They are so majestic to watch. Moving slowly before striking and grabbing their prey.

Just id'd in the ID Forum and added to my list. It is I gather rare to see this bird in the Las Vegas Valley.
