Red-tailed Hawk - Baja California, Mexico (1 Viewer)

ensis

Bípedo implume
This looks like a Red-tailed Hawk, but we're curious as to what subspecies it might be. Seen in NW Baja California, October 19 2019.

The Hawk shows the typical scapular bands of a "Western" Red-tailed Hawk; B. j. calurus..

Plate's 406 and 410 in Wheeler's RAPTORS of Western North America show very similar pictures of Juvenile RTHs and Plate #410 shows a juvenile RTH with a very large Bill much like the one seen in the 3rd image herein.

Wheeler's Range Map of calurus at page 344 in the above Edition shows that B. j. calurus is a year round resident of Baja California.
