just got a sony a200 and need to find a good lens for taking photos of birds what would be a good one and not to costly

You can never get too big a focal length. However that means cost. I use the Tamron 200-500mm lens on my Sony. For one that costs rather less but won't give as much magnification you should go for the Sony 75-300 or the Sigma 70-300. I haven't used it but the Sigma 70-300mm f4-5.6 APO Macro Super DG Lens priced at £149.99 on the Wharehouse Express web site looks very good value for money.
 
Following on the same thoughts of lense choice having just ordered an A200, I have provided a short list of lenses on the market in the up to £200 range. Does anyone have any experience of these or have any suggestions as to which would be better?
