New to the forum but any help will be much appreciated. Wedding photographer
for 12 years. Health problems cant hand hold cameras any more. No more weddings and sold my D800. Too heavy and too much camera. Have nothing longer then 70-200 VR 2 and my D2X. Go with a Nikon D5500 and 200-500 5.6 or a used Canon 70D and a Sigma 150-600 Sport. Have good Bogen tripod and Redrock video rig. Still want to shoot stills and do video. Need something long to get to the cardinals in my back yard and the Egrets on Assateague Island. Any feedback will be appreciated.

Thank you,
Larry

Can't speak on the Canon side, but as a Nikon shooter I would go for a D7xxx body as the D5500 is lacking some features that I would miss when coming down from the "higher level" bodies.
As far as lenses are concerned there are 4 similar choices: the new Nikon 200-500, the two 200-600 Sigmas, and the Tamron 200-600. If I would be in the market for one of those with all four within my budget I would go with the Sigma Sport version.
