In this excellent post, post, billb9430 shows how to make the Baader Hyperion zoom fit the Pentax PF-65ED:

Great news for those wanting a high quality zoom for that scope, but here is a zoom eyepiece to try with the Pentax PF-65: the new (1.25”) Nikon NEP 30-60W:

On the Pentax 65, this eyepiece should give about a 23-47x magnification range, with a FOV of roughly 135’ at 1000 yd. at 23x. If the eyepiece is a good one (I imagine it is) & works with the scope, this could be a very nice combination indeed, a truly wide angle zoom.

On the Pentax PF-80, it should give abt. the same 30-60x range as it does on the Nikon Monarch scopes. While for birding I would certainly prefer a larger true field at the lowest magnification than this combination would give, it still might be a very nice combination.

(The Nikon eyepiece would also be one to try on the new PR-65 & PR-80 Pentax scopes, but they appear to be nowhere available in the US yet- can’t find anything on when or even whether they may become available here.)

I really want to try the Nikon Zoom in the Nikon Monarch!
neither the PF65 or the PF 80 are worth the upgrade to a 500 dollars eyepiece in my opinion..the baader for 200 dollars makes more sense

In Europe & elsewhere things may well be totally different for pricing, but here in the US there is at least one source for the Nikon 30-60W eyepiece at $350 (the Adorama link above), and on the web I don’t see the hyperion zoom available here for less than $289. And, as seen in the post linked to above, to make the Hyperion fit the Pentax you need an adapter specially machined.

As well, though I agree that it sounds like the Monarch Fieldscopes may turn out to be optically very good, the Monarch 60mm scope is going to be weighing in at 3.8 lb, more than the Swarovski ATS 80mm- and those of us going for a 60-65mm scope are likely hoping for a significantly lighter weight option (with the 82mm objective, total package would be abt. 4.4 lb, which isn’t too bad for an 82mm scope). The Monarch Fieldscope 60mm, angled prism unit, and 30-60W eyepiece all together would also set you back $1,700 in the US, as opposed to the Pentax PF-65ED-A + the Nikon 30-60W at $825- so if that combination could be made to work, it might be a very nice, lower budget, lighter weight option than the Monarch 60mm.

So it's been confirmed the eyepieces are 1.25" diameter?

Nikon zoom

Has anyone tried this new Nikon zoom yet? I'm looking for the best zoom possible for my PF ed ii 65 under 10 oz.
I see two versions of the zoom i guess the 20x60 would be the correct choice for the 65mm.
