Monteverde Hummer

This is another hummer that has me confused (it does not take much these days to confuse me). Seen at Monteverde in Feb of this year. The white underside of the tail and the slightly decurved beak are the confusing aspects of this bird, at least to me. Any help appreciated.

I think male Coppery-headed Emerald, not seen in the best light (and therefore the copper tones of the head not coming through.)

I agree with you. Everything else besides the head color fits. No flashes allowed in the hummingbird gardens and except for about 2 hours midday, it is DARK. I have many pictures where the perceived colors do not fit the "normal" descriptions.

Well, I am with them on the "no flashes" rule, there are (at times, during "tourist season") a lot of people there, it could get disturbing.

But SIGH, what a great place! I really miss it; I was there on my first CR trip, many years ago, as a fledgling birder. I think I probably more than doubled the number of hummers on my life list at that spot, in about 5 minutes...
