Ten eggs laid, nine hatched. (Nine laid & hatched last year.)
All doing well until earlier this week - one dead; then two more (dead bodies removed by parents - ? this unseen but presume to be the case).
Yesterday five surviving & one dead still in nest.
Today, one alive, one moribund - not responding to parents' visits.
The last survivor looks ill. Don't think another day will see it live.
Virus?
Parents still bringing food. Weather OK. No ticks or fleas seen.
Is this a one-off or do others have a similar story?

Really sorry to hear of your loss, for me 6 boxes have been nested in 5 doinf well the 6th box lost through a 12 year old child who thought it was great fun to climb 12ft up my tree and tear the box down, the box has been resited and the tree painted with security paint now

In my box the Blue Tits laid 10 eggs only 3 hatched and 2 died. The last one stayed well and fledged this morning.I removed the 2 bodies this afternoon and there were maggots, not sure what to do about the nest itself.

Yesterday I was dismayed to find the chickadee nest in the nest box in the front all torn up and the young massacred. Have no idea what could have done it (there's a 1" hole restrictor on the entrance hole)
