hawk ID--Yucatan Mexico (1 Viewer)

screech-owl

Well-known member
This hawk screamed at me as I watched it from the road. It was sitting on a pole surrounded by a overgrown field.

I am thinking immature Gray Hawk, but it had a lot more streaking that I had seen on any of the other young Gray Hawks on the same trip.

Thanks,
Corey

Yes, imm. Gray Hawk. They probably vary in the amount of streaking on the underparts.
Jan pointed put out the reasons why- the white superciliary and dark malar are pretty good field marks as are the other chars. Jan mentions. Note as well the longer tail than Roadside, Broad-wing and Short-tailed.
