Hi Birders, new member today; I specialize in audio recording of bird songs (1 Viewer)

I just joined and thought I would introduce myself. I'm an AVID birder who loves to record audio of bird songs. (I received a Masters' Degree in Professional Media studies several years ago after producing a 15 minute documentary about the wonderful sounds of nature in the Shawnee National Forest in southern Illinois)

I have continued to record bird songs and if you would like to hear some of them, follow the links at the bottom of this e-mail.

Even though I have been around nature for over 40 years, I am wanting to get better at identifying birds by sight, and MORE importantly, by SOUND.

So, that is the reason I joined this website. So, from time to time I will post a small audio file of a bird that I have recorded and will ask for help in identifying the bird.

Thanks and I look forward to learning more about our fantastic feathered friends.
Kevin

Hi Kevin, welcome to the forum.

I see on one of your links that you are using a Rode NTG-2 microphone. I am currently contemplating the purchase of a shotgun mic, and this is at the top of my list, in my price-range anyway. How do you like it?

Mike

Hello Kevin and welcome to the forum. Nice to have you with us.

Hi Jmepler, I really like the Rode NTG-2. It works real well for me when I want to isolate one particular bird or birds because it is fairly directional. And, even with the wind screen that comes with it it handles wind fairly well. I think you would be veryhappy with it.

Kevi
