Hi All

The evening of 5th.took us to the Olive Grove where we put the usual nets up in tandem plus extras over a ditch which looked to be a good site for migrating birds.

Next morning we turned up and opened the nets but the weather was again threatening and indeed after just 1 round we had to close for a while as a really heavy shower pushed through.

The weather was like this all morning so eventually we had to packup as the rain became torrential. We did have time to take nets down but left them furled ready to return the next a.m.

Despite the limited time available the first of the 2 mornings we trapped some good birds incl.

2 ROBINS
1 RED NECKED NIGHTJAR
3 SARDINIAN WARBLERS
2 PIED FLYCATCHERS
1 WHINCHAT
3 FAN TAILED WARBLERS
1 REED WARBLER
1 GREAT TIT
1 BLACKCAP
1 STONECHAT
1 WILLOW WARBLER
1 HOUSE SPARROW
1 CETTIS WARBLER

Only 1 retrap was a local SARDINIAN WARBLER

The Red Necked Nightjar was a superb juvenile and 2 of the 3 Zitting Cisticolas were undergoing a complete post juv.moult
which was very interesting forthe 2 guys as they had not handled this species before,

Back at this site on the 7th.found much calmer conditions but far fewer birds only new birds ringed were

2 FAN TAILED WARBLERS
1 GREENFINCH
4 HOUSE SPARROWS
2 BLACKCAPS
1 COMMON WHITETHROAT
1 STONECHAT
2 SARDINIAN WARBELRS
1 CHIFFCHAFF
1 BLACKBIRD
1 CORN BUNTING

We retrapped 5 local SARDINIAN WARBLERS

The new ditch nets proved fruitful so will continue in future to use them.
3 of the 4 HOUSE SPARROWS were still undergoing the end of their full moult.

That evening we went up tothe site in the hills below Casares and put up a lot of netting ready for the next morning. The site this Summer/early Autumn had been part.quiet so we hoped to catch more birds with more net coverage.

The morning of 8th arrived and we had all nets open again before first light. But there once again was little around and again it was destined to be an early finish to proceedings.

Just 20 new birds today incl-.

10 BLACKCAPS
1 WILLOW WARBLER
1 COMMON REDSTART
3 ROBINS
2 BLUE TITS
1 HOUSE MARTIN
2 WRENS

We retrapped just 2 SARDINIAN WARBELRS

The blackcaps were exactly 50/50local to migrant birds. At all the sites new robins are moving in to winter from further North and hopefully in next few months will catch a lot more and the same applies to the Blackcaps.
