Manfrotto 728B tripod (1 Viewer)

I've currently got a Slik D3 tripod and a Leica 62mm angled scope. The tripod is nice and sturdy but is a bit heavy for carrying around all day. Ideally, I'd like to get a carbon fibre tripod but they are a bit too expensive. I've also heard that carbon fibre tripods don't take kindly to being thrown around with aircraft luggage.

I've seen this lightweight alumininium Manfrotto 728B tripod and I think it looks ideal for carrying all day and compact for foreign travel. It obviously won't be as sturdy as a heavier tripod, but it might be adequate.

Has anyone got any views on this tripod or can you suggest a better alternative?

Cheers,

Rich.

Rich,
I have a 728B tripod. I like it. It weighs 4 lbs. It seems much more sturdy than some of the extremely light tripods I've seen in stores, and therefore is a nice intermediate. It has an all-metal 3 way pan-tilt head with a quick release plate, which is very handy, and compatible with most of the rest of the Manfrotto quick-release heads. Only thing I don't like is that you cannot remove the entire head, but that isn't so bad for a travel-type tripod anyway.
