We booked a 5-day stay on Santorini not really for birding, though. Stayed at a great-view hotel in Firostefani and got around by bus. Well, as expected really poor on species diversity. Nevertheless, we got some birds we loved to see: Eleonora's Falcon up to three along the caldera. Long-legged Buzzard a few observations along the caldera. Chukar two well seen after hearing them first on Skaros rock. Pallid Swift up to three. Blue Rock Thrush was carrying food near the hotel. Crested Lark in the fields just north of Oia, but also heard at some other places near Pyrgos. Scopoli's (formerly Cory's) Shearwater far out at sea seen from Akrotiri beach. A total of only just 23 species! Possible migrants were some Common Swifts and two species of swallows (House Martin and Barn Swallow). House Sparrow was the only small non-swallow passerine, and it was almost everywhere. No finch whatsoever (except for those kept in cages). Not a single warbler! Really poor. But the caldera view was so absolutely spectacular that birds were of lesser importance for once.
