bird ID, Lake Tana, Ethiopia (1 Viewer)

I thought about that but was confused by the lack of yellow vent. Is it a different subspecies in Ethiopia?

Yes: Pycnonotus barbatus schoanus (no yellow vent)

cf P. barbatus tricolor aka P. tricolor spurius which has the yellow vent (tricolor = black + white + yellow).

Birds of the Horn of Africa says there are ten recognised races of Common Bulbul divided by some into four species.
