barnacle goose

I've just walked the dogs around the fair sized manmade lake on our housing estate near Stourbridge/Brierley Hill. This is a walk I do every day. I was surprised to see a barnacle goose amongst the resident canada geese. Has anyone a likely idea why it would be there? I'm not at all an experienced birder but I do take notice of what's around, I know it's a barnacle goose and have never seen one there before.

I have taken the liberty to copy your query onto the Upton Warren Worcestershire Forum as I know there are many knowledgable and helpful birders on that site.
I'm sure they will come up with an answer for you

regards

Info from Rob one of the birders at UW on your Barnacle Goose sighting ----

There is one reported today at Grimley together with a Ross' Goose (which is an escapee apparently) so the Barnacle may be the same one. One drops into UW now & then possibly one of the non-migrating flock at Slimbridge WWT.

Thanks for your help. I went down to the lake yesterday pm but couldn't see the barnacle goose. It must indeed have been passing through. It looked very relaxed amongst the canada geese.

waxwings

Spotted waxwings sitting on a TV aerial on 35 Barn Owl Walk, off Stamford Rd, Stourbridge. Trekked through snow back home to fetch my binoculars. 14 of them, at 3.30 p.m.
