The Cranes are moving ... (1 Viewer)

dantheman

Bah humbug
Someone usually mentions Common Cranes at about this time of year.

Just went to lock the front door to hear the burbling contact calls of a flock passing low overhead. A flock of c.800 over in the mist yesterday, three small groups of 20 or so the day before.

Never fails to impress.

(Should mention I'm in SW France at the moment. Other crane species may be moving elsewhere.)

Yes, we had a few threads on some giant flocks of cranes in our FB group. Smaller flocks of Branta ruficollis were also photographed at the same site (and various other birds as well). Our birders/photographers seem to be adopting the custom of "species alert" so about half a dozen of them immediately went to the site and later shared the pics.
