Hello everyone. I have recently Started photographing birds and wildlife. I am also teaching my 2 young children about nature and conservation and they are getting very good at identifying different birds and trees etc. Four days ago we found an Oak Eggar caterpillar on our lawn and decided to put it in a container with leaves and watch it for a day or two. The very next day it started to spin its cocoon inside a curled leaf. That was four days ago. We have read three caterpillar/moth/butterfly books today. We are looking forward to talking to the people on this site and learning more about nature. Thanks everybody.

Hi OakEggar and a warm welcome from me too.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I hope to hear about all the birds you see when out and about.

Hi Oak Eggar

You are most welcome here. Take a stroll around the site, its enormous with lots happening. And while most of it is concerned with birds and associated gear like binoculars and scopes and photo gear there are sections covering animals, insects and flowers and more. We hope you enjoy many visits here.

Hi just wanted to add one more welcome to the forum. You have found a great way to spend quality time with your kids.

Welcome to BirdForum! I am sure you will find lots to interest you here, and I hope you enjoy your visits.

How cool!! My dad did that with us when we were young kids. I remember how excited I was to see the beautiful butterfly when it hatched.... but it was actually a very ugly moth and I was terrified of it, LOL! Still loved the experience though. :) Welcome
