I recently took a trip to Hawaii Island. While there in January, I often heard this bird singing outside, but I never caught a glimpse of it. I really like the song and I'm just curious what bird makes it.
There is a whistle, rising in pitch, immediately followed by a falling whistle. This pair is repeated a few times, and then followed by several quick falling whistles.
I recorded it on my phone (file attached)
It sounds similar to the Northern Cardinal in this video,

except the falling component is missing.
Does anybody recognize it?
Cheers.
