hi, i want to install the newest firmware for my 7D , it is currently version 1.2.5 do i have to install the updates in between before i install the latest one, or can i go ahead with the latest update,

You can always go straight to the latest version without needing intermediate updates.

That is my understanding too. Often people have problems getting "older" versions as ONLY the latest is listed on the Canon site - because you don't need the previous versions. All the cumulative updates are in the latest version.

I would love to have the option of going back to the 1.2.5 version.
Is this at all possible?

I suggest you put your request on the DPReview forum in the 7D thread area. If 1.2.5 was released by Canon (from their website) I expect several people may have kept copies - I do, but I only bought my 7D last winter, and it came with the latest firmware installed.

Obviously firmware upgrades always carry some small element of risk. I've uploaded this in good faith, but if anything goes wrong I'm afraid you're on your own.
