After doing a personal big year in 2019 hope focus on birding new areas around Tennessee and nearby states. Started year in Florida visiting family and friends and was also able to make a few quick stops in Alabama on the way home.

A surprising new life bird this past week. A Little Gull was reported last Sunday but no pics. Description by birder was sufficient for me to chase. Sure enough he was correct and bird was present. Was able to watch the gull for about an hour as it flew up and down the lake. Great looks, and diagnostic pictures. This is a bird that has only a few reports in Tennessee and i never expected to find so close to home.

Spent last weekend at the Wings of Winter event in Paris, TN. Great fun and good birding despite not so great weather. Some excellent National Wildlife Refuges in area hold lots of ducks and geese overwinter. Also loads of Bald Eagles and also located Golden Eagle

Am sure you all are in same boat this year. All of our state parks are closed with no expectation of opening soon. Hoping for first of May so some migration can be salvaged. At least have been able to get out to some parks that are still open. Fortunately those that are not widely used except by birders or hikers. Hoping all are safe and well

August continues the theme of 2020 being a very strange year. Saturday was spent doing a drive down toward Chattanooga, Tn to view a Brown Booby. This was a juvenile bird that certainly took a wrong turn. My fear is there is something wrong with this bird as it has now stayed in the same location for 4 days. The month started off with a pair of male Painted Buntings. Another bird out of range. Now with two storms in the gulf and one headed our way, at a greatly reduced force, no telling what I might be chasing this upcoming weekend
