how to get good daytime views of Woodcock? (1 Viewer)

How can I get really good views of Woodcock in the UK?

Roding at sunset is not enough - a photographable bird in the daytime would be much preferred. (I suppose I wouldn't mind one sitting motionless at night, if I could approach it with a strong flashlight.)

I know how hard it is to come by anything more than a glimpse of a bird flushed from the grass. But any suggestions at all will be of great help.

Difficult!
Flight photo you can get in midsummer, when Woodcocks start roding long before it is fully dark.
Otherwise, maybe somebody will tell you if he knows a spot which it regularly visits.
You can also, after flushing one, wait for an hour and return to the same sport, and scan carefully with binoculars whether it returned.
One of these photos was taken in snowy weather. Woodcocks are really hard pressed when the ground is frozen, and might appear in gardens, on what unfrozen ground is available e.g. in the industrial waters.
