Hi

Hoping to visit South Stack and Cemlyn Bay on Sunday. I am travelling from East Lancs. Are there any other places along the way that one should recommend to visit? I went to Conwy last week. I have been to Gronant before and could consider it. I would hope to see a Roseate Tern at least or any other rare birds. Any mossland, heath, sand dune system would be great or even woodland close by where there would be Redstart, Wood warbler, Pied and Spotted Flycatcher, Tree Pipit?

Thanks

Being as this site is a bit "thread" bare (latest 4 July 2013) I thought I would comment on my observations - 14/15 May in Anglesey.

The colonies of sea birds at South Stack appears visibly depleted compared with a couple of years ago at the same time. Although reported as being present, I didnt see a single Fulmar!. There were however many Choughs and a Peregrine Falcon nesting.

Cemlyn Bay held around 1,000 or so Sandwich Terns, but few Common & only 1 Arctic. Also there were 3 Red Breasted Merganzers, Ringed Plovers, Dunlin & 1 Whimbrel.

In Holyhead Harbour of note were at least 4 Black Guillemots and 1 Shag.

What are the chances of finding a roseate tern at Cemlyn? and have any been reported recently? Also, what migrants and waders can I expect?

Daniel, Roseate terns were seen at Cemlyn Bay on the 12th & 20th of May this year. The Warden, who is present most of the time is very helpful, when I went to try my luck! He told me that they tend to fly in late afternoon/evening. I hope that this info is useful. I wouldnt miss out on a visit, they had a Golden Oriole there in April!
