Happy New Year everyone. A day late starting the Garden List after a 1st Jan foray into Switzerland. A late start today too after a shopping(well, for my wife at least) trip to Annecy this morning, where I braved the torential rain for half an hour waiting for the wintering Wallcreeper to appear on the chateau's tower. It clearly had more sense than me, presumably hunkering down inside the fortifications somewhere. Back home, watching through the window as the snow fell I got up to a moderately respectable 18 species, three of which I had to wait a long time for last year:
Blackbird
Great Tit
Marsh Tit
Blue Tit
Magpie
Carrion Crow
Italian Sparrow
House Sparrow
Brambling
Chaffinch
Greenfinch
Coal Tit
Fieldfare
Common Buzzard
Starling
Crested Tit (species number 87 last year)
Willow Tit (no.82 last year)
Pheasant (no.97 last year!)

Amazing that you, Richard, & Joanne both have already had difficult species on day two!

Snipe is about once a year here - so one to hope for.

Happy New Year Richard, If I recall you had a foray into Switzerland & Annecy at the beginning of last year too. I love Annecy, although I have not been for many a year now. Nice to see that your Italian Sparrow is still alive and kicking too :)

Good to read and Happy New Year Nutcracker. Please could you tell us a little about your garden and yard and where you are based, to help put your sightings into perspective.
Thank you and best wishes, Carol

16* Nice Mistler, within the garden too :t:

That's a nice picture Nutcracker, thank you for sharing it.
We have a pair that we regularly see in and around our garden in rural and a long way inland, Norfolk.
They ( or perhaps their offspring?? ) have given us much pleasure, every year, since we moved to our home in 2001 :t::t:

Five species added this afternoon, our daily Robin seems to have gone AWOL though!
19 Bullfinch
20 Nuthatch
21 Great spotted Woodpecker
22 Collared Dove
23 Raven

Don't worry, I'm still on zero :t:

Another seasonal trip?

Siskin & Great-spotted Woodpecker so far this morning = 35

Edit: while having breakfast a garden mega and a fourth for the day close on it's heals :

RED-BREASTED MERGANSER & Peregrine

Blimey, a Merg over the garden, did you put whisky on your cereal instead of milk??;)

I see Jos is braving the European winter in, err, Texas.

I thought that Jos must be somewhere in Syria...

Couple additions for my garden list:

#7. Jackdaw
#8. Magpie
#9. Yellowhammer
#10. Feral Pigeon
#11. Great Spotted Woody

and ofcourse I have to mention that snow has came to my garden too.
