What is your opinion of this bird? It has characteristics of both sexes for Mallard. It is also in an area which has a lot of hybrid MallardXBlack Duck.

Thanks

With that bill, I think there is a good chance this bird is an intersex.
The other thing that strikes me when looking at the picture is the shortish bill and legs. Actualy, my impression is that the whole shape is quite compact. Since you could compare this duck with some others mallards, did you have the same impression Harold?

Not sure there is an other species involved there, but my feeling is that this bird must have some domestic mallard of this kind in its parentage: http://www.fermedebeaumont.com/images/xl/animaux/palmi/canards/XLCMC.jpg
I don't know how you call them in English, we call them "canard mignon" literally "cute duck".

Let's wait Joern's opinion...
