Planning ahead for a family holiday next year.

'Santa' has asked for some help.

Can anyone recommend a bird ID guide for Brittany and the Atlantic coast?
Likewise a guide to good birding sites in these areas would be more than useful as a first-time visitor.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

I used Collins Bird Guide in Brittany. Don't know if there are any (good) ID Guides for this specific area of France.
Regarding birding sites there are the 2 volumes of "A birdwatching guide to France"by Crozier. I don't own these so I don't really know of how interesting they are. When do yo plan to visit Brittany ?

Likewise I'd suggest the Collins Bird Guide is still the best option.

As regards where to see birds perhaps the best option (especially if you have a smattering of French) is to subscribe to the various online reporting databases. Once you're logged on you can see what's been seen and where and can then use the google maps function to get a good idea of access points etc. One drawback is that you won't be able to do a search going back further than 2 weeks but if you start now you should be able to build up an itinerary for your visit.

You can use the same logon details for each site but you need to subscribe to each one first.

Where to watch birds -France (published by Helm) has a chapter on Brittany which lists the top 16 sites. It also covers all the Atlantic coast.

Thanks for the advice. I'll certainly be taking the Collins book but would also welcome something more site-specific, if such a thing exists.

We're visiting in August.

Thanks Eugene, this is very helpful. I'll get logins sorted for those.
I did something similar when we were in Belgium a couple of years ago and it paid dividends.
