Advice for birding in Portland city and surroundings

Hi

I'll be traveling to Portland for work and be there for 4days starting from Monday (27th). Wanted to know of any good patch to check out for birds early in the morning before heading out to work. The weather permitting, I'd like to spend the time from sunrise till about 9am birding. I'm staying at the Marriott City Center. This is my first attempt to see birds in NW USA, so I'll probably be kept busy by the most common stuff.
I checked out the local Audubon site and it seems that the Nature Sanctuary is a good place to start. I was wondering what I might expect there at this time of the year? Advice on any other place to bird would be greatly welcome :)
Looking forward to this trip

cheers
Subho

It sounds like you have limited time....and little transportation. Try Mt Tabor Park on the east side or the rose gardens on the west hills...both are not far away and have some natural areas to bird. best of luck! jim

I've just come back from a week in Portland and for a city there is some brilliant birding! I don't know how you are for transport and I can't help with advice on public transport as I was driven around but some good sites are:

Tualatin
Sauvie Island
Oaks Bottom
Forest Park
Ridgefield, but that is further and you need at least a whole morning.

Here is an ebird bar chart for the county (Multnomah) that Portland is in. This should give you a good idea of what to expect.
