thanks for the links to the transmission curves, Dennis (post #40) and Gijs (#41).

I was gobsmacked by some transmission numbers of older wide FOV binoculars such as the Asahi Pentax 7x35...

30-40% transmission? That's allmost like looking through binoculars with sunglasses on!
