Overnight call 17 November 2016, UK (audio). (1 Viewer)

There are two calls in the attached recording: two calls in quick succession at 04:20 followed by a single call at 04:40.

When I was wizzing through the sonogram they both superficially looked like Song Thrush flight calls. However, they don't sound metallic enough and they sound a bit softer to the ear than the usual Song Thrush flight call? (which to my ear sounds like a small, metal toffee-hammer striking a 6-inch nail). The second call especially has a 'trill' like quality.

They could be two separate birds but I thought it was funny that the sonograms looked similar and they were only 20 minutes apart.

If you look at automated recordings of migratory calls the double-call of Song Thrush can sometimes be found among a series of typical single-calls. I suppose it's the same individual. Curious though that I've never heard the double call in field...

Or is it just two birds, one replying to the other in the dark?
