Micro adjust - Sigma lens (1 Viewer)

A colleague of mine has recently purchased a Canon 7d mkii and a new Sigma zoom lens 17-55mm ( I believe) . I explained about micro adjust in general conversation and apparently while he has no problems setting this on his other Canon lenses he believes the AF focus keeps fluctuating on the Sigma lens despite setting micro adjust in the same way.
It could of course be that he has a faulty lens which he needs to take back but out of interest does the micro adjust work just as effectively on non-Canon lenses ?

Any feedback much appreciated.

I've used it on my Sigma 150-600 Sport and it works just fine.
