Friends going to Arenal and Monteverde in February or so. I don't have my CR records here so was hoping I could get a quick run down on the various options in Monteverde. I am aware of the 2 cloud forests, well 3 counting the Childrens but also wanted to steer them to the newer places I think cari cari was one? Anyway some very fine birding sites with trails and sky bridges that have been developed if you all would indulge me with some names I will be able to pass them along. Many thanks.

Our favorite is Reserva Curi-Cancha, just up the hill from the cheese factory. It is usually quite good for quetzals, that usually arrive in February. A wide variety of habitats, good trails, and good chances of finding an ant swarm.

Monteverde Cloud Forest is perhaps the best known. It is very good, but can be quite crowded. Just outside the entrance is the Hummingbird Cafe, with many feeders that provide good looks at the hummers.

Santa Elena Cloud Forest Reserve is very good, and usually less crowded than Monteverde.

El Bosque de Tigre (part of Children's Eternal Forest), is smaller but is in quite different habitat than the cloud forest reserves. It can be particularly good for long-tail manikin leks and early-arriving bellbirds.

Hi Dan, Yes that is the one I was thinking of. We went to two places I am thinking one being Curi-cancha the other escapes me. I can now pass this along to my friends, many thanks.
