Some information on place and time of the photographs would be welcome, e.g. were they taken in England or in Greece... :smoke:

But it looks like a Herring Gull, not YLGull.

dull and pale brown covert pattern (more contrasting in YLG), wide pale tertial crescents (actually pale inserts additionally to the crescents in this case but that's a bit complicated to explain), and especially short primary projection are much better for herring gull, like peter/smiths already said.

I agree with Peter and Lou.

Superficially this bird resembles a YLG. Square back of the head. Stout, black, rectangular bill coupled with the pale head giving it a 'Maryln Manson' look. However, overall it's a rather uniformly buscuity coloured bird lacking the contrast of the reddish brown wing coverts, greyish mantle and very white head and breast shown by a 1st winter YLG. This bird is also stocky with a pot belly rather than a high Dolly Parton chest.

Bless it, it's ugly! YLGs are handsome devils and only this bird's mother would love it. :t:

Cheers, Andy
