black crow

My second week of birding. Today down by a small pond near a creek at the edge of town.

White Crowned Sparrow
Golden Crowned Sparrow
Kingfisher
Black Phoebe
American Coot
Canada Goose
Black Capped Chickadee
Scrub Jay
Spotted Towhee
American Goldfinch
American Crow
(A duck I could not identify)

And three River Otters but they don't count. ;)

Someone had told me they were down there and I wouldn't believe it. I've seen a fair amount of river otters in my time. (amazing creatures) but didn't believe there were enough fish in this smallish pond to support such. The creek that flows nearby has very few native fish in it and they are very small. (trout to a max of six inches) But there they were.

But back to birds. I could not find that duck in any bird book I have. Do ducks interbreed in the wild much? Or possibly interbreed with domestics?
