Nothing too special by most birding standards, but I saw my first sharp-shinned hawk today, who incidentally was hunting songbirds around a feeder (the songbirds took refuge in a briar bush). I've never seen this type of behavior before and it was fascinating to see. One of the birds "in hiding" was a bright red cardinal. Also a few feet away I saw two white-breasted nuthatches perfectly still on a tree (see my thread here about whether they were sleeping, hiding, or not even real?) Also this week I saw my first mockingbird and first white-throated sparrow (tan morph). Very happy because I'm relatively new to birding so any new sightings are exciting! :)

Nice new birds to get. I always know when one of the resident hawks are about as all the birds race off to the bushes.
