Not the best of pics, just a grab shot through the window in poor light, but it does show behaviour. My garden isn't overrun with Mice... they've just adapted to feed in the daylight. There's a lot of Feral Cats locally, and they pick the Mice off at night. However, I don't allow the Cats in my garden during the day, so the Mice are safer than during the night.
This wasn't always a successful strategy, as I had a regular male Sparrowhawk visiting for over six years, and he preferred Mice to Birds. He was great to watch as he waited in my trees, ignoring the Chaffinches while waiting for a Mouse to break cover. I'd hear a loud thud as he hit the ground after launching himself from my trees... he'd often miss and just look a bit confused while looking under his body and feet before flying back into my trees and starting all over again waiting. (There's pics in my gallery of "Fred", some with him after catching a Mouse)
