OK, so the "pile of corpses" line was a little over the top But seriously, if you've seen the piles of discarded bread out behind my local supermarket, it's no stretch to suppose that bread is 90% or more of the diet of the local birds.
It's quite certain that some species of birds (starlings included) need additional nutrients beyond those in bread in order to thrive. The same is true of humans: bread has no vitamin C, for example [except when bakers add it], so a human who eats nothing but bread for a few months will get scurvy (but most birds wouldn't - they can synthesize their own vitamin C). Does that mean that "bread has no nutritional value for humans"? We've got a few thousand years of history (and pre-history) contradicting that idea.
